Carrier Snapshot: Carrier Data Scraper for a Dispatch House

Home → Portfolio → Carrier Snapshot

Overview

Carrier Snapshot is a custom desktop application built for JB Expedite Logistics, a truck dispatch company. The tool researches carriers in the FMCSA database and turns that data into a ready-to-use contact list. It gives the dispatch team verified carrier details, including emails, phone numbers, truck details and authorization status, so they can reach active carriers faster without researching them one by one.

Challenges & Goals

JB Expedite Logistics needed a faster, more reliable way to find carriers worth contacting. Checking carriers manually was slow, and a lot of that time went to carriers that were inactive, unauthorized or out of service. The challenge was to automate this research at scale while keeping the tool simple enough for a non-technical dispatch team to use every day.

Key Challenges

  • Manually checking carrier records one at a time was slow and repetitive
  • Many carriers on record are inactive, out of service or not authorized
  • Contact details such as email and phone were hard to collect in one place
  • Large MC number ranges needed to be scanned without interruptions or blocks
  • The team needed to focus on carriers registered within a specific date window
  •

Objectives

  • Automate carrier research across any MC number range
  • Surface only active, authorized carriers with usable contact details
  • Filter carriers by MCS-150 date range
  • Run reliably at scale using multiple workers and proxy support
  • Export clean results to CSV for direct outreach
  • Keep the interface simple, with live progress and clear status feedback
  •

Key Features

  • MC range scanning: Set a start and end MC number and let the tool process the full range automatically.
  • Authorization check: Each carrier is checked for active and authorized status, and the rest are skipped.
  • MCS-150 date filtering: Results are limited to carriers whose MCS-150 date falls inside the chosen range.
  • Proxy-enabled scanning: Load a proxy file and scan with up to 10 concurrent workers for stable, fast processing.
  • Configurable speed: Adjust the delay between requests, concurrency, and headless mode to suit each run.
  • Live dashboard: Track processed, authorized, saved and error counts in real time, with a progress bar and an activity log.
  • Rich carrier data: Each result includes MC and DOT numbers, legal name, address, phone, email, power units and other fleet details.
  • One-click CSV export: Save results straight to a CSV file for outreach.
  • Secure access: A private login protects the workspace, and the app runs locally on desktop.

Final Result

The project delivered a desktop tool that turns hours of manual FMCSA research into an automated scan. The dispatch team can now process a full MC range, filter it by date and export a clean list of active, authorized carriers with contact details, ready for outreach. The tool is fast and simple to operate, and it can be reused for any future range or date window.
